Good or bad, voice calls you within
“It is the inner voice that guide me for my
action,” said a 7-year-old girl Sara to her friend softly but confidently. She looks
all around and continued, “My mother said that we all have good and bad voices
inside us and within us and therefore I daily offer prayer that my good voice
should speak loud.”
This is not the new thing to talk and not
even children discuss such things but even grown-up talk about such moral and evil
design inside us. The story of good and bad voices is a story of generations and
it went like this even for generations. Whenever there is a debate on morality,
the story of good and bad voices emerged in one or in other way.
The theory of good and bad voices, say, that
every human I shaving two powers within and these two powers are good and bad
and these powers always and mostly on every issue suggest or guide to do things
accordingly, and, we are the judge who decide which power is better. It is we,
who decide to hear the voices of good one or bad one. If the voice is making us
greedy, unfaithful and corrupt then certainly we are hearing and obeying bad
voice and if we are leading honest and faithful life, then, we are leaded by
the good voice.
But, how can we have a good and bad voices
within us, Shanker in Vedanta Sutra clarified strictly that the soul (atman) is
universe (Brahma) and we cannot distinguish soul from universe. The wrong or
bad is appeared when the mind took something from the eyes of illusion (Maya)
without illusion, self is not diverted to something which is not knowledge or right.
To follow the Vedic philosophy, even, Kapila
in Samkhya said that it is only the nature of Prakarti (material) that misguide
the self (Purusa) and only the mind (Budhi) have the deciding power and not the
soul (which is purusa). Patanjali in Yoga Sutra forwarded that because to the
fluctuation of substance (gunas), the changes occur in the mind (chit) and this
only bring trouble to the budhi (mind) Every concept is in sequence and nothing
have the right to go out of that matrix.
Professor K Paliwals says, “In Indian
philosophy, when we speculate, we find, no way to escape, no power to judge,
all philosophy starts with the life taking purely as a sorrow and ends with the
free spirit. A German soil born scholar, Max Muller amazed that it is only the
soil of India where no free will have the place in judgement.
The Karma Kand Mimansa, holds that every
judgment as prescribed by the Vedas, and, every individual is bound to do what
his duty has been denoted. The Dharama of Vedic text stated that the
purushastra in every Ashram have its place and every man has to perform his
duty accordingly.
The unorthodox philosophy of India, goes far
more away, the Charvaka ruled out the possibility of good and bad, for them
life is to marry and drink. They amazed what evil has to do in this world.
Buddhist with their fixed target, goes just to ride of the sorrow which is not
a part of this world but itself a world and manifestation of self not from
outside. The philosophy in India, is more concern with metaphysical setup than
to lay the moral rules to live as like of Christianity or Islam. In Hindus, it
is only bondage and escape from bondages and nothing else.
The other such theories, that bound the human
are the concept that provide little room to good and bad voices and this
concept is called destiny and this concept gives some free will to man as what
is called fated. This concept as different to the guna (attribute or substance)
of Samkhya. The concept is the effect which is pre-determined by the cause of
last act. That is, we have a space to decide to act and only this act results
as fate in future but still this theory have a restriction to choose but not in
a way of good and bad voices.
The most important and accepted concept for
the theory of good and bad voices is the concept of Samskara. This concept
seems to be an important part of the Hindus theology. One can trace the Indian
human mind by studying the early teachings. Though, many times it contradicts
with the prevailing theories. The concept of Samskara defines that the early
teachings which mark the foots on the sand of mind, decide, the act
accordingly. The Indian theology in generation, define the most basic values
and these values have affect on memory that it seems, it becomes one of the
voices, in place of reflexes of memory. Whereas, bad voice comes on the scene
when it was found that the particular situation, which is not match with the
basic psychology. It is the mind who compounded the experiences with the recipient.
At this particular situation, it is taken as a power of good and evil, which
work on certain events. On the other hand, most of them prefer that Indian mythologies
can be responsible for this good and bad voices theory. But, it is not
possible, because, Hindu mythologies, in advance before starting the concept,
mark the good and bad character for which human fight in his life. Good and bad
voices, is not the fight within human but a fight of human. Hindu mythologies
already have fix heroes, aim, ethics and villains. Interestingly, these
mythologies have a draft of preaching values.
In other way, theory of good and bad voices, can
be a perspective of the theory of inter cultural origin. The invade of Greeks,
Arabs, Mongolian, English and other could be the result to get this theory of
good and bad voices. In the west, the origin of Satin, the power of evil, is continuously
active to get the power on the world, whereas, the god, and his son are trying
to save this world from bad people or from evil. “God is
in us, help us to guide, to fight with the evil.”
Modern philosophy, turns far from the Roman orthodox,
it was the Locke who turns the grasping and origin of knowledge from the
innateness and establish the empirical knowledge. Certainly, the concept of
good and evil have more topics to be turn up, but the war between these two
have taken a firm place in the heart of humans and it turns to be divided or
split personality between good and evil between greed and values.
