Romance in Vedic age

Vedic Age was the important period in Indian history because that was the era that decided what India should be in future and what at present India is and that is because of the conflict and tussle of two streams different and opposite of that time.  Vedic Age was not as simple as it is seen in the ancient history chapters with development of Gram Sabha and recitation of Vedic Mantras. Middle Vedic Age was the period when the conflict came out on highest between Vedic spiritual way of life and Charvaka materialism.

The Vedic life was composed of discipline, purity, logic, education and social development and on other hand another stream was flowing was Charvaka- essence of science, material, objectivity and development of engineering.  Vedic ideology maintains that inference is also a source of knowledge but Charvaka was adamant only on perception as source of knowledge.

The Vedic Age was the conflict and fight of these two different ideology and therefore people of Vedic Age that were living in accordance of three Vedas need more codified sculptures to stick on the Vedic perception of life. It was the struggle and Vedic thinkers put all their efforts to make people remain with the stream of subjectivity. The Charvaka was also the strong stream that influenced people of that time.

Historians have described the life and society of Vedic Age but because of lack of evidences unable them to narrate the actual tussle between two groups of people. It can be like Greece where Socrates was fighting for logical description of knowledge and was therefore killed.

The Vedic Age was the time when two different streams were struggling to overcome and history shows that Vedic spiritual  ideology won the battle and flourish for thousands of years and that is the reason historians and philosophers found no original record or document or literature of Charvaka or materialism. It came only through the reference in the different streams of philosophy, mainly Jainism and Buddhism and Mimansa.

If that fight had opposite result then certainly India would not have had been what it is today and what it was in the past as materialism prevailed and there was some different history of this land.

AT present, in India, everyone talk about Hindu religion, talk about principles, about ethics and about Shastras. Unfortunately no Shastra or epic or any code of conduct of Hindus have similarity of what is talked about Hindus at present.  Hindus was not a religion but people that settled down across the Sindhu River and Sindhu was pronounced as Hindu.

Yes, Hindu civilization was old, rich and also prospered and flourished not in a sense of economy, politics but also in science and philosophy. Indian historians have blink of the life and society of Vedic age and also of post Vedic age but they cannot able to explain what actually there was. They state a rich civilization but confused about the books and literature of that time and even doubted the ideology of those people. Historians also states about different code of conducts of that time and try to relocate those theories at present time.

Legally and logically, the circumstantial evidences are also evidence and on those evidences and literature, I have tried to paint the life and society of Vedic Age of India when civilization was changing. The Vedic Age was the age when life and society was governs by Veda, mostly three Vedas, as Atharva Veda came afterward. There was nothing else that can be reliable and nothing more was needed by the society.

But during the declining of Vedic Age and before post Vedic Age there were more literature and more scriptures and more code of conduct came in this civilization. These scriptures and literature and code of conduct talked only about following Vedas in pure sense and these literature and scriptures talked more on the values of the society in accordance with the Vedas.

When people were living in accordance of Vedas then certainly commentaries like Manu Smarti was not required but that came the first codified Hindu way of living in which from eating to wearing and living to death is explain explicitly.

At present, Manu Smarti is taken as a right wing concept of caste system and of harassment of women but in actuality, it is a wonderful work of art of living in accordance to Vedas that is Nature. The way of living describe in the Manu Smarti is base of physiology, Human tendency and principles of Nature.

But why people of Vedic Age required the new scripture in the way of codified code of conduct when Vedic Age was totally dedicated and in accordance with the Vedas. Historians also talk about another stream that prevailed in that age and certainly because of that stream sculptures and literature like Manu Smarti came to provide guidance to the people of Vedic Age to fight against materialism of that time.

People were confused between Vedic thinking and materialistic approach of life as material is the major part of every life and it cannot be ignored.
