Idealism & Rationality - challenging in Hindus race
Without respect and education to women,
No prosperous Vedic civilization of Aryans
survives
Hindus mostly came out with the remarkable history of Vedic Ages. But in
later Vedic ages the philosophy divided into two parts in which the first was
idealism and spiritualist formation of society in which god and gods appeared
and this god or gods become important in Hindu society and this god or gods are
ontological argument of universe and social fabric. Smirtis like Manu, Vishnu
and lot of others came out to form law for society and they divided the society
into four Varnas of castes by work but later it turned by birth. Then entered
Purnas that describe the roles of particular gods in evolution and why Hindus
should praise these gods. There were Vishnu Purana, Brahma Purana, Shiva Purana
and many others. There were also like Garur Purana that fabricated the concept
of hell and heaven in Hindu society. Later epics like Mahabharata and Ramayana
that laid the foundation of idealist Hindu people.
But the other stream in later Vedic age was liberalists, materialistic,
rationalists and on those basis philosophies like Samkhya, Yoga, Nayaya,
Vaishishika, Advait Vedanta and even Buddhism, Jainism and Charvaka came out
that tried to provide reasonable concept of universe and most importantly the
epistemological part to understand the world and grasp knowledge. In these
philosophies there was no place of god or gods and the universe had reasonable
start and end. Upnishads supported these
philosophies mostly Kathoupnishad and the Angas came in support of Unpnishads
in which the moral and values were totally different and rational and logical.
The spiritual way and rational way were the two streams that initiated
in Hindu race at the time of Aryans but with time spiritual way of life got
edge because it is the easiest way of life in which onus of everything can be
put on god and Hindus can sleep well whole night because god or gods are there
who will solve their problems. While rational way of life was tough because it
gave the prism that there is no one except a person who has to solve his
problem by earning and hard worl.
What at present India is and that
is because of the conflict and tussle of two streams different and opposite of
that time. Vedic Age was not as simple
as it is noticed in the chapters of ancient history with development of Gram
Sabha and recitation of Vedic Mantras.
The Vedic life was composed of discipline, purity, logic, education and
social development and on other hand; another stream was flowing -Charvaka-
essence of science, material, objectivity and development of engineering. Vedic ideology maintains that inference is
also a source of knowledge but Charvaka was adamant only on perception as
source of knowledge.
It was the time of struggle and Vedic thinkers put all their efforts to
make people remain with the stream of subjectivity. The Charvaka was also the
strong stream that influenced people of that time because of engineering and
science.
Historians have described the life and society of Vedic Age but because
of lack of evidences they are unable to narrate the actual tussle between two
groups of people. It can be like Greece where Socrates was fighting for logical
description of knowledge against Greek gods and was therefore killed.
The present proves that Vedic ideology won the battle at that time and
flourished for thousands of years and that is the reason historians and
philosophers found no original record or document or literature of
Charvaka or materialism. It came only through the reference in the different
streams of philosophies, mainly Jainism and Buddhism and Mimansa.
If that fight had opposite result then certainly India would not have
had been what it is today and what it was in the past and if materialism
prevailed in that battle then certainly
history would have been different. Moreover the custom of caste system was
never being the part of Hindu Religion if materialism won that conflict.
At present, in India, everyone talks about Hindu religion, talks about
principles, about ethics and about Shastras. Unfortunately no Shastra or epic
or any code of conduct in past of Hindus have similarity of what is talked
about Hindus at present. Hindu was not a
religion but people who settled down across the Sindhu River formed a way of
living as according to the Nature and that way of living formed Hindu race.
Circumstantial evidences are also evidence and on those evidences and literature,
I have tried to paint the life and society of Vedic Age of India when
civilization was changing. The Vedic Age was the age when life and society was
governed by Veda, mostly three Vedas, as Atharva Veda came afterward. There was
nothing else that was reliable and nothing more was needed by the society. But
during the declining of Vedic Age and before post Vedic Age there were more
literature and more scriptures and more code of conduct came in this
civilization and these literatures and scriptures talked more on the values of
the society in accordance with the Vedas.
When people were living in accordance of Vedas then certainly
commentaries like Manu Smriti was not required but that came the first codified
Hindu way of living in which everything right from eating to wearing and
living to death is explained explicitly.
At present, Manu Smriti is taken as a Right wing concept of caste
system and of harassment of women but in actuality, it is a wonderful work of
art of living in accordance to Vedas that is Nature. The way of living described
in the Manu Smarti is base of physiology, Human tendency and principles of
Nature.
But why people of Vedic Age required the new scripture in the way of
codified code of conduct like Manu Smriti when Vedic Age was totally dedicated
and in accordance with the Vedas. Historians also talk about another stream
that prevailed in that age and certainly because of that stream sculptures and
literature like Manu Smriti came to provide guidance to the people of Vedic Age
to fight against materialism of that time.
People
were confused between Vedic thinking and materialistic approach of life as
material is the major part of every life and it cannot be ignored. Even materialism remained under current in
Hindu society from hundreds of years as every ritual even conducting feast of a
dead man need material things to perform that ritual and simple prayers is not
sufficient which is subjective.
